We have been test-optional for admissions and merit scholarships for more than 40 years. We are on the Common App, Coalition App, and have our own application. Our unique book essay is considered the most important factor of the application.
Teachers and Counselors
Through partnership opportunities, summer programs, visit options and application workshops, we’re thrilled to bring St. John’s to you and your students. Virtual opportunities to connect are available for your students, and we’d also love to talk with you individually about the college!

St. John’s Graduate Institute offers busy teachers a way to continue their own education. Educators can complete courses year-round by taking evening classes, spending time on campus in the summer, or completing their entire degree online through our new low residency program. Educators can even combine the best of our in-person and online options by taking classes in person during the summer and then finishing their degree online during the fall and spring terms. In addition to the Master of Arts in the Liberal Arts and the Master of Arts in Eastern Classics, we also offer the Liberal Arts Education Certificate, which was specifically designed for educators looking for additional experience with seminar-style pedagogy. Our Summer Classics and Teacher’s Institute are other options, with week-long intensive opportunities to focus on a text, led by St. John’s faculty.
Master’s Degree from the Graduate Institute
For teachers interested in a Master of Arts in the Liberal Arts (MALA), you can complete a degree over four summers. Full and half-tuition scholarships are available for teachers.Learn more about MALA

The Teachers Institute
The Teachers Institute provides a place for educators to reinvigorate themselves and return to their classrooms refreshed. Every year, our Teachers Institute provides opportunities for educators to read great books, experience the collaborative discussion-based learning at St. John’s, and exchange ideas with a network of educators who value the life of the mind.Participate in the Teachers Institute
